The Space
We have a beautiful 2000 sq ft space in the heart of NOPA, San Francisco. The dream was a space that felt like an extension of our homes, both logistically and figuratively.
The Tools
We are a generalist makerspace for hobby-scale projects in electronics, digital fabrication, and making. There are many specific, expensive, or dangerous pieces of equipment we don't have like welders, plasma cutters, kilns, etc.
We do, on the other hand, have:
- 3D Printers (FDM and Resin)
- a 40W Laser Cutter
- Soldering Stations
- Power Tools
- Hand Tools
- Woodworking Tools (circular saw, mitre saw, jig saw, etc.)
- Electronics Workbenches
- Computer Workstations
- A large-format wood CNC
- and many more gizmos!
The People
We are a community of makers, inventors, engineers, researchers, and artists working to build a space that is a home for our projects, and a place to collaborate with others. We mostly work in technology, and treat MadSci like a refuge and shared space for talking shop and making our imaginations real.
Membership
We want MadSci membership to be accessible to everyone, and as a non-profit it is part of our mission statement. Members can join as either a "Member" or a "Founder". We also offer a limited number of subsidized "Catalyst" memberships. Please contact us for more details regarding pricing, benefits, and terms. We have a few ways we're trying to make this possible despite the economics of renting a commercial space in San Francisco. We have different membership options, which we subsidize on the lower end and treat as a compelling charitable contribution on the higher end. We accept donations to help cover the cost of subsidizing memberships for those who can't afford it. We run events and workshops, where proceeds go directly to reducing our operating costs. Please reach out to us directly via email if you are interested in donating, or joining, or both! We're excited for you to get involved.
